Say Hello to Tooth #2

Anne is well on her way to a mouth full of tiny baby teeth. Tooth number two broke through today and she's celebrating by chewing on everything she finds.

Welcome tooth #2. We are so glad to finally meet you.

A Daddy's Girl

There is no doubt that Anne loves her daddy.  She immediately smiles when she sees him and he can make her giggle like no one else.

And nothing makes me happier than seeing the two of them together.
When I met Matt, I knew he would be a great father.  Kids flock towards him and his nephews adore him.

Anne and I are lucky to have him in our lives and we love him dearly.

Seven Months!

Our baby girl is seven months old today.

At 7 months she is:

  • Taking baths without the infant tub
  • Sprouting her first tooth
  • Famous thanks to Ellen
  • Making new friends at her new daycare
  • Loving all of the new foods she has tried, especially sweet potatoes and chicken
  • Taking swim lessons at the Y
  • Reaching for everything and I mean EVERYTHING
  • Banging things together to make noise

I can't wait to see what's in store for the next month.

Here are a few favorites from our photo shoot

Fun with Paper Towels

No matter the number of toys I get Anne, she seems to enjoy playing with the oddest things around the house.  This week, a paper towel roll.

On Wednesday evening, Matt took care of Anne while I hosted Book Club.  A few minutes before people started arriving Anne was sitting on the counter and of course, she immediately reached for anything that she could get her hands on.   The paper towel roll became an instant hit as she began ripping off towels, trying to eat them and banging the holder on the counter.

It's never a dull or quiet moment at our house these days, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.  Well, maybe I would trade a few hours of it for a good, long nap.

There's a Tooth in that Tiny Mouth

FINALLY, a tooth has arrived.  It's barely broke the surface; however, there's definitely a tiny tooth appearing.  For months and months, we've talked about how this was about to happen.  She's been a constant drooler since 2 1/2 months and goes through about 4 or 5 bibs a day.  (Sometimes we just do laundry to wash bibs.)

There have been times she's been inconsolable, had a fever and chewed on everything in sight.  However, nothing has happened until today.

While I'm sad her gummy grin will soon go away, I'm happy to see that she is making progress.

Ceramics Fun

Today, Mrs. Gladys arranged for Sarah and I to take the girls to her friends ceramics studio to make a plate using the girls hand and foot prints.  My last time to paint ceramics was on our honeymoon and I learned that while I don't necessarily enjoy it, Matt certainly does.

However, this time I was excited about the chance to do something like this with Anne, Mrs. Gladys, Sarah and Caroline.

Our goal was to make a plate for Santa's cookies using a image I found on Pinterest.

When we arrived, Mrs. Gladys' friend, Stephanie, told us that she would like to try something new with us.  She rolled out clay and made molds using their feet.  After that, we picked colors for her to paint the molds after they set or kiln or whatever happens next.  No surprise, Sarah and I chose pink.

Afterwards, we got started on the plate project.  Anne was a great sport the whole time.  After Stephanie put their foot prints on the plates, Sarah and I painted the rims and added the stars and trunks to the trees.

Here's the plate after I painted it.  We'll go back in a week to pick them up.  I can't wait to see them and use this plate every Christmas.  What a fun way to remember how tiny her feet were!

As I mentioned earlier, Matt enjoys things like this and I'm scoping out this place for a future birthday party for him.  Booze and ceramics, that's every guys dream party, right?

Anne and Murphy are Famous!

After taking this photo last week, a friend mentioned that we should submit it to the Ellen DeGeneres Show.  Since Matt is a HUGE Ellen fan, he couldn't resist the thought of possibly getting to meet her if this photo made it on her show.

When he submitted it, I admit I didn't think anything would come from it.  I'm sure her show receives thousands of pictures each week from proud parents.  However, I was wrong.  On Wednesday, another friend sent me a Facebook message telling me that this photo was on Ellen's "caption this" feed.  Not following Ellen on FB or knowing what that meant, I had to ask what she was talking about.

Quickly, I went to Ellen's FB page and saw that our adorable baby and dog where there and thousands of people were either liking, sharing or commenting on the photo.

On Thursday, I found out Ellen had pinned this photo on her Pinterest board.

Anne has quickly become an internet sensation and Matt and I don't know whether to be proud or worried.  Luckily, there isn't personal information with the picture, so everything will be fine.

As of today, her stats are:

We'll let you know if Ellen calls.  I'm pretty certain that Matt would squeal like a girl if she does.

New House, New Daycare

Now that we are living in south Austin, it made sense to find a daycare that was closer to the house.  Since the end of May, Anne has been going to Leaps and Bounds daycare in central Austin.  It was near our old house and a daycare that was not only able to accommodate our need of a flexible schedule, but they also had great teachers that Matt and I had enjoyed working with.

After crying the first day I dropped Anne off, her teacher, Ms. Kathy, called to let me know how she was doing just to reassure me that everything would be fine.  They also made Matt a mold of Anne's feet for Father's Day, which really sealed the deal for us.

Sadly, the location was no longer convenient and with the two of us traveling frequently, it was time for us to find another daycare.  I searched for weeks to find something that would be perfect for Anne and Mrs. Gladys finally found it.  Her church offers a Mother's Day Out program on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Most programs like this don't provide care for infants, so it was nice to find one that did and more importantly in a place that we could trust.

So last Wednesday, we said goodbye to Leaps and Bounds, but before doing so, Anne and I picked up a few gifts to thank each of her teachers for taking such great care of her over the past few months.  I also need to add that Anne was voted best dressed in the infant room.  When I picked Anne up that afternoon, her teacher's and friends had made her a sweet goodbye sign.  I teared up when I saw it and each of the teachers hugged Anne and me as we left.  We hope to see a couple of her teachers soon since they offered to babysit for us in the future.

Here's the sign they made Anne.  They put the footprints of each child and their hand prints, along with sweet notes to her.

On Tuesday, Anne started her new daycare program at Woodlawn Baptist Church. She will go there every Tuesday and Thursday and spend the rest of the week with Mrs. Gladys.  Now that I no longer have Friday's off, they'll have even more time together.

We enjoyed meeting Anne's new teachers, all of which Mrs. Gladys has known for years.  This definitely helped alleviate any fears of leaving her that day.  Tuesday was pretty rough since Anne was fussy most of the time, which we learned later that day was from an ear infection.  Thursday was much better and now that we are in our new house and daycare, we look forward to a regular routine moving forward.
